College of Vocational Studies IPB University Veterinary Paramedic Lecturer as Speaker at OIE Workshop

The lecturer of the Veterinary Paramedic Study Program at the College of Vocational Studies IPB University, became one of the speakers at the OIE Virtual Regional Awareness Raising Workshop on Veterinary Workforce and VPPs, some time ago. In an activity held by OIE (World Organization For Animal Health), Drh Henny Endah Anggraeni, MSc and Drh Heryudianto gave an overview of the development of veterinary paramedical education in Indonesia, especially in the College of Vocational Studies IPB University. “The theme of this meeting is the development of the world of work in the field of veterinary medicine or animal health. This activity discusses regulations and the roles and responsibilities of veterinarians and veterinary paramedics (Veterinary Para Professionals (VPP), in the world of work in providing animal health services in Asia and the Pacific,” explained the IPB University Vocational School Lecturer.

According to Drh Henny, the curriculum and learning output provided are based on competencies that have been stipulated in the Government of the Republic of Indonesia regulation No. 3 of 2017 concerning the Veterinary Authority. The field of work for graduates is also in accordance with the National Work Competency Standard (SKKNI) No. 46 of 2013 and is supported by Law no. 11 of 2020 concerning Job Creation. Drh Heryudianto Vibowo, MSi, IPB University Lecturer from the Vocational School also had the opportunity to convey about the IPB University veterinary paramedic study program.

“The Diploma 3 Program for Veterinary Paramedic IPB University has a curriculum that supports the competence of graduates in the field of veterinary public health. These are microbiology courses, hygiene and animal product safety courses, veterinary epidemiology and economics courses and zoonoses courses,” he explained.

This activity was attended by representatives from Asia and the Pacific. OIE expects National Animal Health Services in each country to play an important role in protecting animal health and welfare. OIE also monitors the responsibilities of veterinarians and veterinary paramedics with health approaches, such as zoonotic prevention and control, and wildlife health. OIE also hopes that animal health organizations in government can ensure that personnel involved in animal health services have the appropriate competencies. Several OIE members in the Asia Pacific region are facing challenges in terms of regulation of animal health services. Especially for veterinarians and veterinary paramedics in providing animal health services, including laws and regulations, regulations, coordination and communication between stakeholders, and providing education. OIE hopes that veterinary paramedics can play an important role in implementing animal health services. (HEA/WB/Zul)
